Welcome to the Credit Rebuilder Program

Congratulations!
As a member of the Credit Rebuilder Program, your credit score will start to improve just by making your monthly payments.
But educating yourself about credit, and adopting good credit habits, will help your score increase even faster. To keep you on track, we will send you regular emails reminding you to keep watching the lessons in 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score, join the Q&As, and adopt the habits of a person with great credit. That said, if you want a deep dive and don’t want to wait for the email reminders, we have included the two-year email sequence below so that you can go through them at your own pace.

Your First Steps
  1. Get your free credit report. This will help identify errors during your Platinum Credit Review (see Step 2).
  2. Schedule your appointment for a Platinum Credit Review, where we will review your credit report for errors, and determine whether you have had any of your legal rights violated.
  3. Add [email protected] to your email contacts so that our emails don’t end up in your spam folder. There is no portal specifically for the Credit Rebuilder Program (but keep reading for the 7 Steps portal). Rather, you will receive weekly email guidance.
  4. Login to our portal to access your free credit-education course, 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score, and watch the Welcome video as well as Lesson #1. If you cannot find your login details, click here, enter your email, and request your password.
  5. Follow the week-by-week plan outlined on this website. Your credit score will start to improve simply because you have joined the Credit Rebuilder Program. By making your monthly payments, your score will naturally increase over the next six to twelve months, as long as you are paying your bills on time.
  6. That said, completing the action items explained in 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score will accelerate the speed of improvement. You can complete 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score at your own pace. Of course, the faster you complete the steps, the faster your score will improve.
  7. Review the FAQs found here. (Scroll to bottom of page.)

If you haven’t booked your free appointment for a review of your credit report, now is the time to do so!

This free review will be conducted by Schumacher Lane law firm.

Errors on your credit report are a big deal, so be sure to access your free credit-education course, 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score, and review Step One: Correcting Errors on Your Credit Report.

In short, booking this appointment now is important because:

  1. Schumacher Lane will identify errors that might be hurting your score by as much as 60 points (and sometimes even more!)
  2. Upon reviewing your credit report, Schumacher Lane can initiate the process of disputing any errors on your credit report.
  3. Schumacher Lane can also check for possible violations of your rights. If your rights have been violated under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, you could be eligible for compensation.

And … this is a quick reminder that your payments will be reported to the credit bureaus by Consolidation Capital. You will see this name, or CONSOLCAP, on your credit report.

To help boost your credit score, you’ll need to open three new credit cards. (Keep reading … I’ll explain why in a bit.) But first, here are your next steps.

  1. Review the list of pre-screened cards here. This is a list of cards that are most likely to approve your application, based on your current credit profile.
  2. Apply for three cards by filling out the online application for each.
  3. Follow the instructions carefully to complete the application process.

Why is this important?

The short explanation is that when you open new cards around your old debt, you show the credit bureaus that you have changed your behavior. Step #2 of 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score provides the full explanation.

Watch the Lesson

We like to compare it to a grade point average. If you flunk a few tests, your GPA will be low. But if you start getting A’s on your latest tests, your GPA will start to improve.

Of course, it can be hard to get credit cards if you have poor credit, so we did the work for you. Once again, here are pre-screened credit card offers that are right for your situation.

P.S. This is a quick reminder that your payments will be reported to the credit bureaus by Consolidation Capital. You will see this name, or CONSOLCAP, on your credit report.

Are you taking advantage of the free legal support and counsel you get with the Credit Rebuilder Program?

If lenders or credit bureaus have broken laws in collecting or reporting your debt, Schumacher Lane can provide you with legal advice and consumer protection counsel.

In fact, if any laws have been broken, you might even be eligible for financial compensation.

If you’ve already booked your free credit review, you don’t need to do anything yet. Our representatives are already looking into it for you.

But if you haven’t booked your free credit review, do that now! This way, we can start the process of correcting your credit report and making sure your rights are protected.

Schedule my free credit review

P.S. Remember that it may take up to 45 days for your first payment to appear on your credit report. Your payments will be reported by Consolidation Capital.

One of the fastest ways to improve your credit score is to have a new installment account reported to the three credit-scoring bureaus.

(You can learn more about why this is important by watching Step #3 of 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score. Watch the lesson here.)

The good news is that the Credit Rebuilder Program counts as an installment account!

You don’t need to do anything but make your Credit Rebuilder Program payments on time, and your score will start to improve in the next few months.

Here’s the even better news: If you need an installment account to buy a car, we can help you with that, too.

All you need to do is click here to book an appointment for a free consultation about buying a car after declaring bankruptcy

Your first payment for the Credit Rebuilder Program will appear on your credit report about 60 days after the payment was made.

We wanted you to know that payments are reported on your credit report by Consolidation Capital.

If you see this line item on your credit report, you might not recognize it, but rest assured, it isn’t a mistake!

By making your  payments on time, you’ll see your credit score naturally start to improve over time. You’ll likely start seeing changes four to six months after your first payment.

As a reminder, your first payment will be reported to the credit bureaus the month after it was made. For example:

  • If you paid your first monthly payment in February, it will be reported to the credit bureaus in March.
  • If you paid your setup fee in February and your first monthly payment in March, your payment will be reported to the credit bureaus in April.
  •  Your monthly payment will be scheduled for the same day each month, based on the date of your first payment. For example, if your first payment is on the 15th, future payments will also be due on the 15th of each month.

There are quite a few ways to build your credit score quickly, and you’ll learn all about them in Step #4 of 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score, which is a great lesson to review if you are applying for a loan or credit card in the coming months.

Watch the lesson here.

And don’t forget these three strategies:

  1. Remove the errors from your credit report. You can click here if you haven’t had your credit report reviewed by one of our representatives yet.

(Remember that you might be eligible for financial compensation if your rights have been violated, so be sure to book that appointment!)

  1. Add three new credit cards in good standing. Click here for prescreened offers.
  2. Keep making your Credit Rebuilder Program payments! In fact, your score will probably start to improve in the next few months!

P.S. If you are married, do not open these credit cards with your spouse. Open them in your own name! This is explained within the 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score course. Watch the extra credit lesson about marriage and credit.

One of the things you’ll learn from Step #5 of our credit-education program is that you should never waste your money buying your credit score.

In fact, most places will sell you a credit score that isn’t really your true credit score.

As part of your membership in the Credit Rebuilder Program, you have lifetime access to our credit-education course, 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score

Be sure to watch Lesson #5 and learn everything you need to know about where to get your credit report and credit score.

After all, your credit score is very likely on the rise thanks to your membership in the Credit Rebuilder Program!

We’re excited to offer you a new way to earn a free month in the Credit Rebuilder Program—just by helping someone else take the first step toward a better financial future.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Refer someone to the Credit Rebuilder Program.
  2. Once they have enrolled, email us at [email protected] with your referral’s name and email.

When your friend signs up, you’ll receive a free month in the Credit Rebuilder Program as a thank you.

Refer two friends who enroll? That’s two free months.

Help 15 friends get started? You guessed it—15 free months on us.

P.S. Remember, your payments are reported to the credit bureaus by Consolidation Capital. Just by making on-time payments, you’re already moving closer to your credit goals!

If you scheduled your free credit review when you first joined the Credit Rebuilder Program, you should have received your results from Schumacher Lane by now.

If you haven’t seen them yet, be sure to check:

  • Your inbox (look for an email from Schumacher Lane)
  • Your spam or junk folder (just in case it was filtered)

Depending on your specific credit report, it can take up to four weeks for Schumacher Lane to send the results. If it’s been longer than that, send them an email and ask about your results.

Here’s what to do next:

  1. If you’ve received your findings, review them carefully. Schumacher Lane will help you with errors on your credit report, as well as correcting any violations of consumer laws meant to protect you.
  2. That said, head over to the 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score portal, where you’ll find templates, tools, and tips that can guide you through other steps you can take to improve your credit score.

One of the goals of the Credit Rebuilder Program is to help you move beyond debt and start building wealth—and we know that’s not always easy if you’re facing unemployment.

That’s why we offer an unemployment benefit as part of the program.

If you’re currently unemployed due to circumstances beyond your control, just reach out to us at [email protected]. We’ll collect a few details and let you know how this benefit can support you during this time.

We’re here to help you stay on track—even when life takes a detour.

Here’s something most people don’t know: your utilization rate makes up nearly 30% of your credit score—and yet, fewer than 1% of people actually understand what it is or how to manage it.

That’s why we included a bonus lesson inside your credit-education course, 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score. You’ll find it in the extra credit section, under the title “Utilization Rates.”

This quick lesson breaks down:

  • What utilization rate means
  • How to calculate yours
  • How to improve it to protect your growing credit score

Understanding this one concept can make a huge difference in how quickly your score improves—and how high it climbs.

If you’re married, it might seem like a good idea to open credit cards jointly—but we recommend building credit separately.

Why?

You and your spouse can leverage your credit scores more effectively if you each build your credit independently. That way, both of you can strengthen your scores and protect your financial flexibility.

This topic is fully explained in the Marriage and Divorce lesson inside the extra credit section of 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score. Be sure to log in and give it a watch!

And if your spouse needs to start building their credit, consider referring them to the Credit Rebuilder Program. It’s a powerful first step.

As part of the Credit Rebuilder Program, you’re considered one of our VIPs—which means you get priority access to our monthly Q&A calls.

These sessions are your opportunity to ask Philip Tirone, founder of 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score, any credit-related questions you may have.

When you take full advantage of the Credit Rebuilder Program, your credit score will start to improve in about six months—and these Q&A calls are designed to help you stay on track.

Keep an eye on your inbox for an invitation to join the next session. Because you’re enrolled in the program, you’ll be first in line to get your questions answered.

It’s time to focus on boosting your score even more—and we’ve got two straightforward tools to help.

Option 1: Get a secured credit card
A secured credit card works just like a regular credit card, but it requires a deposit as collateral.

Why it helps: A secured credit card reports to the credit bureaus like any other card, helping you build a positive payment history.

You can view a list of pre-screened cards here. These are cards that are more likely to approve your application based on your credit profile.

Option 2: Become an authorized user
If someone you trust has a well-established credit card, you can ask to be added as an authorized user.

Why it helps: Their positive credit history will appear on your credit report, which may improve your score. Just be sure to monitor the account—being added to the wrong card can also hurt your score.

If you are unsure of your options, log into your 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score portal and go to Credit Lesson #4: Quick Credit Strategies. You’ll get a more detailed breakdown of how to use these two strategies.

Thank you for being part of the Credit Rebuilder Program. We’re proud to support you on your journey, and we’d love to hear how things are going so far.

Would you take a moment to complete a quick questionnaire? It’s mostly multiple-choice and easy to fill out:

Complete the Questionnaire

Your feedback helps us improve the program, enhance features, and make sure we’re serving you—and others—better.

Thanks again for being part of the Credit Rebuilder Program family!

As a member of the Credit Rebuilder Program, you have access to several valuable perks. Here’s a quick refresher to make sure you’re getting the most out of your membership:

If you’re experiencing involuntary unemployment, let us know. Your membership can continue without interruption. Email [email protected] to get started.

We’re here to make sure you have every tool you need to rebuild your credit and build your future.

P.S. Remember that your payments for the Credit Rebuilder Program will be reported on your credit report by Consolidation Capital. By making your monthly payments, your credit score will naturally start to increase over time.

Your credit report changes multiple times a month, which means there are plenty of chances for mistakes to sneak in. And there’s one particular error that shows up more than any other—and when it does, it can seriously hurt your score.

The good news? It’s fixable. And once it’s fixed, your score could jump quickly.

To learn what this error is, log into your 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score course and watch the extra credit lesson called Credit Card Limits.

In short: If a credit card company reports the wrong limit on your account, your score will drop. If they refuse to fix it, they may be violating your rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

If you think a creditor has reported an inaccurate limit, schedule your free credit report review. Schumacher Lane law firm will dispute the error on your behalf—and if it isn’t corrected, you may even be entitled to financial compensation.

Schedule an Appointment

The Credit Rebuilder Program is all about helping you rebuild your credit score, particularly after bankruptcy.

But that’s just the beginning—because at the end of the day, our goal is to help you move past your debt and build lasting financial strength.

Start by watching the extra credit lesson called Refinancing and Saving Money in 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score.

Once you’ve raised your credit score, you can—and should—qualify for lower interest rates. That means more money in your pocket and a faster path to financial freedom.

P.S. Many lenders won’t tell you this, but once your credit improves, you can often refinance your loans and save thousands. The refinancing lesson in your portal walks you through exactly how to do it.

You’ve made great progress—now it’s time to take things to the next level.

One of the most effective strategies at this stage is to request a credit limit increase on your existing credit cards.

Why this works:

Your credit utilization ratio is a major factor in your score. By increasing your available credit (while keeping your spending the same), you lower your utilization, which can lead to a score boost.

For example: If you have a $500 balance on a $1,000 credit limit, you’re using 50% of your available credit. If your limit increases to $2,000, your utilization drops to 25%—and your score improves.

What to know before you request an increase:

  • Some issuers will do a soft pull, while others may do a hard inquiry (which could temporarily affect your score).
  • It’s best to request a limit increase after several months of on-time payments and responsible use.
  • Avoid requesting increases on multiple cards at the same time.

You can learn more about this in 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score, inside Lesson #4: Quick Credit Strategies.

P.S. On-time payments to the Credit Rebuilder Program (reported by Consolidation Capital) are a major part of your progress. Keep going—you’re on the right track.

Have you had your credit report review with Schumacher Lane?

If so, we’d love to hear about your experience. Whether your credit score improved, your questions were answered, or you just felt peace of mind knowing your credit was in good hands—your story could inspire someone else to take that first step toward financial freedom.

Take the survey.

If there’s something we can do to improve your experience, we’d love to hear that too. Your feedback helps us grow.

Thank you for being part of this mission. Your voice matters—and we’re grateful to have you on this path with us.

If you’re married, it might seem like a good idea to open credit cards jointly—but we recommend building credit separately.

Why?

You and your spouse will be better positioned to leverage your credit scores if you each build credit independently. This gives you more flexibility and stronger financial options as a household.

You can learn more in the Marriage and Divorce lesson, located in the extra credit section of  7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score. If you are married, be sure to log in and watch this lesson.

And if your spouse needs to build credit too, consider referring them to the Credit Rebuilder Program. It’s a powerful way to get started.

Remember, you’ll get a free month of the Credit Rebuilder Program for anyone you refer. To get credit for the referral, email us your spouse’s name and email address at [email protected] so we can apply your reward.

You’re one of our VIPs, which means you get priority access to our monthly Q&A calls—your chance to ask Philip Tirone, founder of 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score, anything about your credit journey.

When you take full advantage of the Credit Rebuilder Program, your credit score can increase to 720 in just 6 to 12 months. These calls are here to help you stay on track and get personalized support along the way.

Be on the lookout for your invitation to the next session—your enrollment puts you at the front of the line when it’s time to ask your questions.

Your credit report changes multiple times a month, which means there are plenty of chances for mistakes to slip in.

And there’s one particular error that shows up often. If it happens to you, it can drop your score fast. But the good news is, it’s also one of the easiest to fix.

To learn more, log into 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score and watch the extra credit lesson called Credit Card Limits.

Here’s the short version:
If a credit card company reports the wrong limit on your account, your utilization ratio goes up—and your credit score drops. If the company refuses to fix it, they may be violating your rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

If you think your credit limit has been reported incorrectly, schedule a free credit report review (if you haven’t already). Schumacher Lane will dispute the error on your behalf—and if the issue isn’t resolved, you could even be eligible for financial compensation.

P.S. Keeping an eye on the small stuff—like credit limits—can make a big difference. You’re doing the work, and we’re here to help you protect your progress.

You’ve been in the Credit Rebuilder Program for about six months now—which means you’re a quarter of the way through one of the most powerful tools available to rebuild your credit.

At this stage, your score may already be improving—or it might feel like things are moving more slowly than you hoped. Either way, this is a quick note to let you know that you should stay the course.

Credit scores are influenced by many factors, and some take more time to increase than others. The important thing is that you’ve laid the foundation—and if you stay the course, the results will come if they haven’t yet.

In fact, we’re so confident in this process that we guarantee it:If you follow the steps in 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score and don’t reach a 720 score by the time your Credit Rebuilder Program membership ends, we’ll give you a full refund. (See the details here.)

To protect the progress you’ve already made and stay on track for your goals, log into the 7 Steps portal and review the lesson called Protecting Your Score. You’ll learn:

  • What to watch for as your profile improves
  • How to keep your score high
  • Common mistakes to avoid after rebuilding

You’re doing something most people never do—you’re rebuilding your future. We’re proud to be on this journey with you!

We have had some Credit Rebuilder Program members ask us for even more credit-improvement strategies—and we’ve got a new opportunity that could give your credit an extra boost.

Add a Second Installment Plan OptionTo help accelerate your progress, we’re now offering the option to open a second Credit Rebuilder Program at a reduced rate of $29/month—with the enrollment fee waived.

Here’s how it works:

  • You can have two installment plans: your existing plan, and another at $29/month
  • You’ll need to use a different email address for the second plan
  • Both accounts will be reported separately, adding an additional line of credit to your credit report
  • Simply email us at [email protected] and let us know you’d like to add a second account. Let us know a good time to call you, and we will set your account up!

This is a great way to strengthen your credit profile and build momentum.

Thank you for being part of the Credit Rebuilder Program! We’re proud to support you on your credit journey and would love to hear how things are going so far.

Would you take a minute to complete a quick questionnaire? It’s short and mostly multiple choice:

Your feedback is incredibly valuable—it helps us improve the program, strengthen features, and make sure we’re giving you and others the best support possible.

You’ve officially been in the Credit Rebuilder Program for eight months—great job staying committed!

By now, at least six months of payments should have been reported to the credit bureaus. That’s because we report payments a month behind, and it can take up to 60 days for them to appear on your credit report.

So if your first payment was made in Month 1, it would have shown up by Month 3, and each payment since then should now be reflected.

If you’re not seeing your score improve yet, it’s time to revisit the most important tool we give you

The 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score

Your on-time payments are a powerful start, but they’re just one piece of the puzzle. If you’ve skipped a step—or haven’t been consistent—it could be slowing you down.

Even if you’ve looked at the 7 Steps before, go back and review them now. They’re short, actionable, and designed to work together with your monthly payments.

Let’s make sure all your hard work is paying off.

Want to save money and rebuild your credit faster? We’ve added new ways to help you get more out of the Credit Rebuilder Program—and reward you while you’re at it.

  1. Referral Bonus – Get a Free Month
Know someone who could use a credit boost? When they join the program, you get one month free. It’s our way of saying thanks for spreading the word.

Here’s how to claim this reward: Once your referral has enrolled, email us at [email protected] with their name and email address so we can credit your account.

  1. Testimonial Bonus – Another Free Month
Record a 2-minute video sharing how the Credit Rebuilder Program, Schumacher Lane, or your bankruptcy journey has helped you. Speak from the heart—no need for fancy editing. In return, you’ll earn another free month of the program

3. 720 Credit Score Guarantee, Or Your Money Back
If you follow the step-by-step instructions and don’t reach a 720 score within 24 months, we’ll refund 100% of your payments—including the setup fee. Simply email us at  [email protected] for more details.

That means more money in your pocket and a faster path to financial freedom.P.S. Many lenders won’t tell you this, but once your credit improves, you can often refinance your loans and save thousands. The refinancing lesson in your portal walks you through exactly how to do it.

Here are a few of the perks we hope you’re taking advantage of as part of the Credit Rebuilder Program:

  1. Error removal & legal support. If you haven’t scheduled your review, click here.
  2. Lifetime access to the 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score credit-education program.
(Need your login? Email [email protected].)
  3. Priority access to our monthly Q&A sessions. Check your inbox for the next invite.
  4. Unemployment benefit. If you’re involuntarily unemployed, email [email protected] so we can help.

P.S. Not everyone realizes this, but your free legal review could uncover rights violations that result in compensation. Don’t miss out—schedule your review if you haven’t already.

Refer someone to the Credit Rebuilder Program, and if they enroll, you’ll receive one free month as a thank you.

To participate, email us at [email protected] and let us know your referral’s name and email so we can make sure your reward is applied.

Thank you for helping others take the first step toward rebuilding their credit!

P.S. You can earn multiple free months just by spreading the word. If you know anyone ready to rebuild, now’s the perfect time to refer them.

If you’ve gone through bankruptcy or any major financial hardship, opening new credit cards might be the last thing you feel like doing—but it’s actually one of the most important steps you can take to rebuild.

Here’s why:
Credit scoring models put more weight on recent behavior than past mistakes—but if you don’t give the system new behavior to measure, it has no choice but to keep scoring you based on your past.

That’s why opening three new credit cards—and using them responsibly—is such a powerful step. It shows the credit bureaus that your habits have changed, and that you can be trusted with credit again.

If you haven’t opened three cards yet, we’ve made it easy by creating a list of pre-screened credit card offers that are more likely to approve you based on your profile:

Access Pre-Screened Credit Card List

P.S. When you’re ready, rewatch Step 2: Opening Credit Cards Around Your Debt in your 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score portal. It walks you through exactly how (and why) this strategy works—especially after bankruptcy.

We’d love to hear how the journey has gone for you. Whether you’ve improved your score, cleaned up your report, or just feel more confident with credit, your story can inspire someone else to take their first step.

P.S. Want to add even more extra months to your membership?

  1. Refer your friends. If any of your friends or family sign up for the Credit Rebuilder Program, simply respond to this email with their name and email address. We will add an extra month of reporting to your membership. And here’s the even better news: There is no cap on the number of people you can refer, which means there is no cap on the number of additional months or reporting you can add.
  2. Provide a testimonial about the Credit Rebuilder Program, if you haven’t already done so.

If you have collections on your credit report, Step 6 of 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score is a must-watch.

Log in to the Portal to Watch Step 6

In this lesson, you’ll learn:

  • When paying off a collection can hurt your credit score
  • Why older, unpaid collections may be better left alone
  • How to negotiate a lower payoff—especially if errors were made
  • When to time your payments if you’re planning a major purchase

You’ll also get access to sample letters and negotiation scripts to help you lower the amount you owe and protect your score.

At this point, your credit score is likely on the rise—and you’re going to want to protect that progress.

Step 7 of 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score outlines three simple habits to help safeguard your credit:

Watch Now

Here’s a quick summary …

  1. Sign up for credit monitoring
Choose a service that covers all three credit bureaus and provides real-time alerts for any suspicious activity. Many only cover one or two bureaus, which isn’t enough to fully protect you.
  2. Automate your bills and keep your accounts active
One missed payment can cause a major drop in your score. Avoid this by automating every monthly bill. Also, make sure your credit cards stay active. Assign a small recurring bill to each one so they continue working in your favor.
  3. Review your statements monthly
    Watch for two things:
  • Has your credit limit been lowered? If so, ask the issuer to restore it or pay down the balance to keep your utilization below 30%.
  • Are there any charges you don’t recognize? Regular review helps catch fraud and errors early.

Looking for another way to boost your score?

You may be eligible to open a second Credit Rebuilder Program account—which means an additional line of credit reporting to the bureaus.

That’s a powerful way to strengthen your credit profile even more.

Here’s how it works:

  • Your first account stays active
  • Your second account is reported separately
  • Both accounts show positive installment history (as long as payments are made on time)

To qualify, you’ll need to enroll using a different email address. If you’re interested, reply to this email or contact us at [email protected], and we’ll help you get started.

Life happens—and sometimes, a payment slips through the cracks.

But it’s important to know that just one missed payment can cause a significant drop in your credit score. Even a short delay can have long-term effects, especially if the account gets reported as 30 days late.

If that happens, don’t panic—but do act quickly.

Here’s how to recover:

Bring the account current as soon as possible.
Call the creditor and ask if they’ll remove the late mark. If it’s your first offense and you’ve been a good customer, they may agree.
Keep the account active and in good standing going forward. Over time, the damage will fade.

Going forward, we strongly recommend automating your payments—either through your bank or directly with each account. This one simple habit can protect all the progress you’ve made.

And if you cannot make a payment on time, call in advance and ask for an extension.

Very often, creditors will reward you for proactively communicating.

If your score recently dipped, but you’ve been doing everything right—don’t worry.

It’s completely normal for credit scores to fluctuate from month to month, even when your habits are solid.

Here are a few reasons your score might temporarily drop:

  • You opened a new credit card or took out a loan (hard inquiry)
  • Your utilization rate changed due to a big purchase
  • You paid off a loan and now have fewer active accounts
  • A credit limit was reduced by your card issuer

These changes don’t mean your credit is headed in the wrong direction—they’re just part of the system.
Stick with the habits you’ve learned in 7 Steps to a 720 Credit Score, and your score will rebound.

Many people assume they have to wait seven years, but that’s not always the case.

There’s no cost or obligation—it’s simply a first step toward homeownership.

Getting a credit limit increase might feel like a green light to spend more—but that’s not the move.

Instead, a higher limit can help improve your credit score if you keep your spending the same.

That’s because your credit utilization ratio (how much credit you use compared to what’s available) is one of the biggest factors in your score. When your limit goes up but your balance stays low, your utilization improves—and so does your credit.

Here’s what to do when your limit increases:

  • Keep your monthly spending at the same level
  • Avoid using the increase to carry a balance
  • Use the card occasionally so it stays active

Smart use of your credit limit increase can quietly accelerate your score over time.

It might seem smart to close old credit cards once your finances are back on track—but doing so can actually hurt your score.

Here’s why:
Closing old accounts reduces the average age of your credit history, which is a key scoring factor. It can also shrink your available credit, raising your utilization ratio—even if your balance hasn’t changed.

Unless there’s a fee you’re trying to avoid, keep older credit cards open and active until your score is well past 720. This way, you can afford to see your score drop a few points when you close the older account.

Even a small automatic charge (like a streaming subscription) is enough to keep the account working for you.

The longer your positive credit history, the stronger your score.

And when it is time to close your credit cards, follow these two rules:

  1. Do not close a credit card if you plan on making a major purchase in the next six months
  2. Make sure you have opened at least three active credit cards in good standing before closing a credit card. If you are closing a credit card because you want to upgrade to better cards, no problem! Just make sure that you open the new-and-improved credit cards before you close older cards.

Thinking about buying a car? Applying for a loan? Moving to a new place?

Here’s how to prepare for big financial steps without damaging your credit in the process.

Before you apply for anything major:

  • Avoid opening multiple accounts in a short time (each one adds a hard inquiry)
  • Keep credit card balances low so your utilization stays strong
  • Don’t close accounts just to “simplify”—they may be helping your score
  • Time your application for when your score is at its best

With the right timing and a few smart moves, your credit can work for you—not against you.

About two years ago, you took the first step toward rebuilding your credit—and today, you’ve reached a major milestone.
